Saskia Rodríguez, a place between reality and fiction

Saskia Rodríguez is an artist born in Gran Canarias trained in painting and stamping. His artistic work focuses on ideas about lies and repetition, to raise questions about how credibility and truth values are built in today's society.

Hello Saskia, who are you? How would you define yourself?

I don't really like definitions, I think they limit us.

Where were you born? Do you still live there?

I was born in Gran Canaria and lived there until I was 18 years old. Since then, I have lived in Salamanca, Valencia, Galicia and the Basque Country. I currently live in London.

When did you decide to become an artist?

I don't think it's a thing you decide to become. I guess you just do a number of things that are considered art. And personally, as long as I can remember, I have always had a great interest in the world of art.

How would you define your style in one sentence?

I don't consider myself to have a style, although I suppose that without wanting it, I follow a line of interest that perhaps makes my work recognizable, so to speak.

Your weaknesses? Your strengths?

Gnocchi with pesto. Go for a run afterwards.

What would you say makes you different?

My allergy to pineapple.

What do you find most fascinating about creativity?

The sensation that it generates.

Which of your works do you have a special affection for?

I think 'The copy of the copy' can take the cake. It reminds me of when I lived in Valencia and everything in life was easy.

Who inspires or influences you when creating?

Each of the people I have close.

Do you have a new project or idea in hand?

2025 Where do you see yourself?

Rich bitch lying in the canary sun.

Finish the sentence: When things get tough…

I go home to recharge my batteries.
