Helo Bastos is a non-binary trans artist with a degree in visual arts with technical training in the field of graphic and visual design. Hailing from Brazil, he has spent many years working on a variety of projects exploring various media, languages, and themes. Currently his project VAZÃO focuses on combining gestures and vibrant pastel color palettes, mixing abstract and organic shapes in an explicitly digital and visually minimalist language.

Some of his reference artists for this project are Henri Matisse (1869-1954); Hans Jean Arp (1886-1966); Ellsworth Kelly (1923-2015).

Technique

The process of each work begins with a manual digital drawing in black and white, which is then vectorized and reinterpreted through the use of recombinations of colors and shapes.

His ingenuity when it comes to creating organic shapes. There is not one the same as another, either because of its composition, color or shape. An attractive minimalism that makes a positive impact when you look at it.

A curiosity

Did you know that VAZÃO means flow? A way of giving "fluidity" to creativity, feelings and perceptions in this period of pandemic, taking into account all the social-political chaos that has been experienced especially in Brazil, his native country.
