Simple is beautiful

Kate cooke is a British Mix Media artist and illustrator living and working on the south coast of England. Fascinated by the way the eye sees, the mind interprets and the hand expresses. Simplicity is the hallmark of his work; minimal markings and a limited palette of colors are deliberate moves to strip things of their essence and communicate the subject in the purest possible way.

Personal Profile

References

His influences include the minimalist line drawings of painters such as Picasso and Matisse, and the fluid use of color by abstract expressionist painters, especially Helen Frankenthaler and Lee Krasner. Also inspired by the work of British illustrators such as Quentin Blake and EH Shephard.

Technique

Kate is a Mix Media artist who combines different techniques in her works such as watercolor, ink and oil pastel on paper. His abstract expressionism combines perfectly with these techniques that give him a very particular subtlety.

We like it for ...

His delicate use of line and colors, combining forms that lead to unpredictable paths along the paper. His transcendent attachment to nature, very focused on his homeland and his memories.

A curiosity

Did you know that Kate studied for a year at the Wimbledon School of Art in London? Later he left it to dedicate himself to his family, but recently he returned to it with more enthusiasm than ever.
