Julie Celina

Welcome to the Jungle

Julie Celina is a Danish artist who lives and works in her studio on the picturesque and beautiful island of Fanø, Denmark.

Her style is defined as feminine, antique and modern at the same time. With her soft, muted color palettes and rich textures, her paintings create a soothing atmosphere that incites introspection, blending nature and humanity effortlessly. With botanical elements alongside serene, contemplative figures, her work invites the viewer into a reflective, grounded space that serves as a reminder to slow down, breathe and listen.

Fascinates us by

Her style radiates a nostalgic tenderness that envelops you. Her technique reinforces this sweetness by applying that earthy style that comes close to the first cave paintings. Pure nature and message.

References

Although she is easily inspired, Julie Celina is particularly drawn to ethnobotany, symbolism, distant worlds and the simple things of everyday life, which are the main themes that dominate her semi-surrealist artworks. Her artistic practice has followed the evolution of art, starting with realism, then moving on to impressionism, and now Julie Celina is mostly inspired by the post-impressionists, where the iconic Henri Matisse is her all-time favorite artist.

Technique

Inspired by the regenerative movement and her background in activism, Julie Celina has set out to transform her artistic practice to use only natural and biodegradable materials, a commitment that very few visual artists make. Her preferred medium at the moment is oil paint on wooden boards coated with crushed pumice stone to create a uniquely textured surface. From time to time, Julie Celina also enjoys creating linoleum prints, embroidery and charcoal drawings. In addition, she likes to make prints to offer her works in different sizes to make them more accessible to everyone.

A curiosity

Did you know that Julie is currently living in a village straight out of a fairytale? After years of longing for a more leisurely life closer to nature, Julie Celina now resides on the tiny, raw and windy island of Fanø, off the Danish west coast, in the middle of a national park called the Wadden Sea, where she is surrounded by endless beaches, heather fields and fairytale villages. If you don't believe us...look it up and be amazed!
