The real beauty

Residing in the heart of Amsterdam, Sophie Bek is the creative force behind IvyGreen Illustrations. Sophie is an animal and nature lover, she can't live without books and music and people in general are her eternal muse. Ivy Green Illustrations started as a hobby, and grew into a small business inspired by the support of wonderful people who believed in her talent. It was her father who coined the name “The Ivy,” a plant that begins its journey in the shadows and gradually grows stronger and taller towards the light high up in a tree. It is a story of resilience, of drawing strength from the shadows and finding your own radiance.

In her collection you will find abstract and minimalist portraits of women, created with a focus on simplicity and imperfection. Sophie is a firm believer in the beauty of understated art, which is why her figurative illustrations have minimal details that capture the essence of each figure in a subtle and modern way. Her works often feature soft and warm earthy tones, which blend seamlessly with the clean lines and abstract shapes that define her style.

The naturalness she expresses in each of her works instantly becomes beauty. No frills, nothing overdone... neutral tones and unfinished faces are enough for this talented illustrator to move us.

References

Sophie is inspired by all sorts of things: writers, painters, designers and photographers. Jo Nesbo is one of them, a master at painting pictures with words, something she greatly admires. Henri Matisse's work - his simplicity and use of color - really inspires her. There's also the creative duo Aline + Célia, whose digital artwork is simply soothing. And, of course, Ed van der Elsken, whose photographs reflect the emotion of ordinary people. Photography in particular fascinates him, because even when you see an image, there's still room for your imagination to take over.

Technique

Every work of art she creates begins with a spark of inspiration: shapes, colors, emotions or fleeting moments I observe in everyday life. Whether it's a silhouette on the streets of Amsterdam, an old film photograph or a surprising composition in a museum, her creative process is a mix of observation and intuition. People, especially women, are always the focus of his work. He also takes analog photos to capture moods and movements that are then incorporated into my illustrations.

A curiosity

Did you know that Ivy Green Illustrations continues to be a parallel passion for Sophie? By day, she works full time raising funds for a charity that helps people with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. By night (and weekends, and any free time she can find), she immerses herself in her art. Actually, it was the people around her that encouraged her to start selling her artwork. It was at a time when she really needed that creative spark.
